Called by Magic: a Baine Chronicles World novella (Mischief and Magic Book 0) by Jasmine Walt (free today 2/15/19)

Called by Magic: a Baine Chronicles World novella (Mischief and Magic Book 0) by Jasmine Walt is going to be a fantastic series! I cannot wait for the next one to come out. You can get it free today on Amazon (full review and links below)...

Seriously, can’t wait for this Mischief and Magic series to continue. There is something special and fun about this one. If you like magic, ghosts and action, give this novella a try. Even if you haven’t read The Baine Chronicles, you will have no problem following this.

Annia Melcott travels to Southian after her sister is forced to work the mines as a punishment. She takes on a couple jobs and the adventures begin.

Things to expect: bandits, mages, a ghost named Garalina who becomes something special to Annia (not giving this spoiler away, sorry), magic, hedge witch, cave exploration for magical fungus, revenge for a lover killed, and characters that help move the story along and keep it interesting. This has a little darker story line compared to The Baine Chronicles.

Overall, I highly recommend. I will certainly be checking out the next book.

Parental advisory/trigger warnings: some swearing throughout (a-hole x2, s-word x6, f-word x2, damn x5, and hell x10), fighting, death from gun shot, concussion, bars and drinking, tensions between the races (mages, shifters, and humans), death of father at young age, death from fall, death from throat being slit and then left for dead, and family tension.

The Wastelanders by Tim Hemlin, Narrated by Bryan Anderson

The Wastelanders by Tim Hemlin was an interesting take on the dystopian/sci-fi genre. Would recommend (full review below)...

The Wastelanders by Tim Hemlin, was an entertaining take on dystopian/sci-fi genre. Would recommend if looking for something in this category.

What’s it about? The summary tells it well. For those who need a little more: politics, corruption, war, cartels, powers such as time travel, those who live in the bubble and those who live in the Wastelands (outside the bubble), and the conflicts of the various groups.

The good: keeps you interested, easy to listen to, not too many characters where it gets confusing.

The not so good: a couple parts were a little slow for my taste.

Narrator: Bryan Anderson did a good job on the narration. There were a couple of voices I could have gone without, but they didn’t ruin the book. I would listen to other books by him.

Overall, I would recommend, a solid four stars all around. This is one of those books you can see happening in the future.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: slurs (Chinaman, fruit, or like terms), religion, some swearing, weapons, bombing, prejudice, racism, death.

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
