Safe Haven: Rise of the RAMs, Volume 1 by Christopher Artinian and narrated by S.W. Salzman

Safe Haven: Rise of the RAMs, Volume 1 by Christopher Artinian and narrated by S.W. Salzman is solid start to a new series- good world building, good character development, and well written. Would recommend if you're looking for a Z book, looking to venture into the zompoc genre, or just looking for something new. Full review below...

Safe Haven: Rise of the RAMs, Volume 1 by Christopher Artinian and narrated by S.W. Salzman is solid start to a new zompoc series. If you enjoy a mix of character-driven and plot-driven elements to your Z story, this is the book for you. I do recommend. 4 ½ stars.

What’s it about? Smack dab in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, Mike and Emma learn they are not as safe in the quarantine zones as the higher ups want them to believe. With increasing outbreaks occurring, they take their younger siblings and make their way to their grandmother’s house in Scotland. Unfortunately the trip is a difficult one as they meet some good and some horrible people along the way. You will find yourself rooting for Mike and his family. You will get a nice variety of zombie scenes and character development. Mike has a bit of a flawed background- it will be interesting to learn more in future installments.

The narrator, S. W. Salzman, did a fantastic job with this one. Quite a difference with voices from the two previous books I’ve listened to. As I said in my last review, he is on my list of narrators I am following.

While there are some interesting aspects to the story, it may be a little slow going for some readers/listeners initially and there really isn’t anything new for a zombie story, but it has great world building and is well written. I look forward to future books and how the story/characters progress. Overall I recommend, especially if you’re looking for a new Z book, looking to venture into the zompoc genre, or just looking for something new.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: death (multiple ways- people and Z's), torture of a man, kidnapping of women/girls for sex, swearing throughout (f, s, or similar words), guns, knives, and possibly other things I'm missing (I misplaced my notes-sorry!).
