Time Travelling Taxman (All Books) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone

Initially I was going to create separate posts for these books, but going to add them as I go so they are all on one page beginning with the first. Updated and finished on 9/2/2019.

Book 1:
T-Rexes and Tax Law (Time Travelling Taxman, Book 1) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone was a fun time travel adventure! Dinos, humor, time travel, what's not to like? Full review below.

Where to purchase:

T-Rexes and Tax Law (Time Travelling Taxman, Book 1) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone turned out to be a fun and humorous time traveling story. If you love time travel, this is the book for you.

What’s it about? Alfred and Nancy are investigating tax fraud. They find a little more than they bargain for and end up traveling to the time of the dinosaurs. While they do find the man of the company they are investigating, problems arise as things are not as Alfred has hoped for. Other things you’ll get: friendship, betrayal, survival of a group, time travel and what’s expected with it, hidden labs, dinosaur adventures, and more.

I ended up loving the book. At first I wasn’t sure as Alfred is a “by the rules/goody two shoes” kind of guy and there were times I wanted to smack him upside the head. Nancy helps to put Alfred in his place. She is a strong woman who knows what she wants and won’t put up with Alfred’s crap. If you start the book and are like man, this guy...stick with it as his character does develop into a not so annoying one. The supporting cast turns out to be just as great as the two main characters.

The narrator, John Carter Aimone, did a good job. He definitely helped to make the characters, especially Alfred.

Overall, I recommend as it’s well-written, entertaining, and a light read/listen. I’m already on to the second book in the series.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: a couple swear words (f’s) but very minimal as the MC doesn’t believe in swearing, guns (for survival and other uses- not saying due to spoilers), mention of serving in the Marine’s but no war talk, death. Overall, it’s a very light read. I’d have no problem letting my teen listen to this, or my younger child.

Book 2:
Book two was quite different from the first book...3 stars

Where to purchase:

UFOs & Unpaid Taxes (Time Traveling Taxman, Book 2) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone overall was OK, but it didn’t draw me in like the first book. Would recommend if you’ve listened to the first book in the series.

What’s it about? Alfred is back and manages to get roped into rescuing an alien and pulls Nancy and Josh into the mix. From there, they bring the alien on some adventures of every day life. For those who are new to Alfred, he tends to make some bonehead moves and is a by the book kind of guy. I enjoyed the second half more than the first as that was where the action happened. It should be forewarned there is no time travel in this book.

Regarding narration, it felt like the pauses were longer and the speech was drawn out more in this book. Maybe because the story just didn’t do it for me this time?

The good news? Book three is turning out to be fantastic, so if book two doesn’t do it for you, know that book three is better and similar to the first.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: a little romance (nothing graphic), some swearing but very minimal as the MC doesn’t swear, breaking and entering (it’s indicated, but that’s all I’ll say due to spoilers), drugging of MC, a man grabs the aliens butt. Overall these books are pretty tame for the genre.

Book 3:
MarvelousCon & Tax Cons (Time Travelling Taxman, Book 3) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone is the best one in the series in my opinion, or at least so far...

Where to purchase:
Audible
Amazon
iTunes

MarvelousCon & Tax Cons (Time Travelling Taxman, Book 3) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone is a fun one and the best in the series so far! Would recommend if you have been following from the beginning or if you are new and looking for a time travel book. 4 ½ stars for story. 3 stars for narration.

What are Alfred and Nancy up to this time? Nancy unknowingly stumbles upon fraud during a routine tax audit that endangers their lives while attending a Sci-Fi convention called MarvelousCon. From there the time travel adventures begin and poor Josh gets dragged into the mix...again. In the beginning there’s quite a few relationship woes- stick with it because it does pick up and once it does, it’s a fun story. I enjoyed the humor.

The narrator, John Carter Aimone, did an OK job with it. I wish some of the pauses and speech weren’t so slow at times. Sometimes it works, other times it’s too much. He does voice Alfred well and brings him to life.

Overall I recommend. Your inner nerd will appreciate this one.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: repeat death, minimal swearing (Alfred is a buy the books/innocent kind of guy and doesn’t believe in swearing.

Book 4:
Time Slips & Tax Thieves (Time Travelling Taxman, Book Four)

Where to purchase:

Time Slips & Tax Thieves (Time Travelling Taxman, Book Four) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone is another fun one with Alfred and Nancy (and everyone they drag into their time travel shenanigans)! Definitely recommend this one- the books get better as the series moves forward.

What’s it about? Alfred and Nancy go camping and while “roughing it”, their tent gets full of water, resulting in the time machine malfunctioning. They then glitch to multiple alternative realities before ending up in medieval times. From there, the good and not so good times roll. This is a book for those wanting a happy end.

The narrator, John Carter Aimone, was OK. I’ve made it clear in previous reviews the speed is a bit slow my taste. My solution to this is to speed up the narration a bit and that solved my issue with it (if you find this is the case, try this before quitting the book). John does voice Alfred well- I can’t imagine another voice for Alfred.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Overall the book is light. Alfred doesn’t believe in swearing and is a very by the book kind of guy. There is an addiction theme in this particular book.

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
